Eliminating Food Insecurities Challenge

X

The INNOHUB@PGCC is partnering with the Good Food Consortium to provide students an opportunity to design solutions to combat food insecurity, which could ultimately impact the disproportionate rate of diet-related illness in the Prince George’s County, Maryland.

our Approach

  • Implement a competitive design model that impacts attitudinal and behavioral changes linked to diet-related illness by challenging teams to establish strategies, services, and best practices.
  • Provide  faculty/staff mentors digital literacy, collaborative, and interdisciplinary training
  • Utilize digital platforms to learn/collaborate/design concepts.
  • Implement the design challenge winning prototype.

our Results

  • Recruited 20, high school, middle college and community college students.
  • Created five blended design teams, with each team comprised of high school and college students.
  • Faculty/staff mentors and external entrepreneurs in residence (EIRs) led the teams through a design thinking process that required research, prototyping and exhibition.
