Verizon Innovative Learning

The INNHUB@PGCC was selected by the Verizon Foundation to participate in the Verizon Innovative Learning (VIL) Program, which is an education initiative that provides tuition-free summer STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)  and entrepreneurship programming for middle school students (grades 6 through 8). The initiative was developed to address the barriers to digital inclusion.

our Approach

  • The program was built to address the fact that only 12% of engineers and 22% of computer professionals are women, and the opportunity exists to give our girls the right tools to pursue all the opportunities available in STEM fields.
  • The program is a dynamic three-week summer program that provides 100 middle school girls opportunities to learn design thinking, 3D printing, augmented reality and social entrepreneurship.
  • The INNOHUB@PGCC works with PGCC adjunct faculty,  Interns from local higher education institutions, Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) workers, and local entrepreneurs to provide the girls with a transformative experience.

our Results

  • Since 2018 the INNOHUB@PGCC  has worked with 200 middle school girls to provide them the inspiration and tools they will need for a brighter future in the digital world.
  • The girls are exposed to technology, education, and opportunities to create solutions to solve problems based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
